God Bless Pope Francis

Pope Francis the First

Pope Francis the First

Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio from Buenos Aires in Argentina. He is the first ever to come from South America and also the first to have taken the name Francis.

He was presented to the crowd waiting in St Peter's Square from the vast balcony that runs across the front of St Peter's basilica.

Earlier in the evening, white smoke had flowed from the chimney above the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. This was a signal that one of the candidates for the pontificate had obtained the necessary two-thirds majority for election.
The fumata bianca– the white smoke signal that marks the successful conclusion of a papal conclave came after only five ballots on the second day of voting.

Year of Faith

Minimize

Year of Faith 2012 - 2013One of the key aims of the Year of Faith is to study the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which has its 20th anniversary of publication in October 2012. In the Diocese of Nottingham Bishop Malcolm will be presenting monthly catechesis sessions, available on YouTube or the video page on this site, throughout the year of faith. These can be used as a focus for group study in parishes and/or individual reflection. This series is called ‘Opening the Door of Faith with Bishop Malcolm’.

The presentations will take us through the flow of the catechism. This is the preliminary outline of the subjects:

October – ‘What is faith?’; November- ‘Mary, Woman of Faith’

December-‘Jesus Christ, Son of God’; January – ‘God the Father’

February – ‘God, the Holy Spirit’; March – ‘Teach us to pray

April – ‘The Resurrection’; May – ‘The Church & the Creed'

June – ‘Sacraments of Initiation’; July – ‘Other Sacraments’

August – ‘Life in Christ- Catholic Social Teaching’

September –‘The Ten Commandments'; October – ‘Christian Prayer’

Our Parish Mission Statement

Our parish is missionary, and together, through evangelisation, we support and transform our communities on their journey of faith, by the nurturing of a personal friendship with Jesus Christ.

Our parish consists of the three market towns of Shirebrook, Bolsover and Warsop, situated on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border.
Just North of Mansfield and close to the M1 and Sherwood Forest, all our churches are very easy to find.
Shirebrook and Bolsover were once thriving mining communities but, with the pits now closed, today’s generation is looking at new horizons
through the regeneration programmes. Our Parish Priest is
Fr Jonathan Cotton.
