Churches Together

Churches together in Shirebrook began some time ago but, at first did not include all the Shirebrook churches. It is only over recent years that all of our churches have been involved.

A Council was formed which comprises: the church leader and two representatives from each church. The Council meets four times a year and every January at the Annual General Meeting a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer are elected. The meetings are informative, enlightening and very friendly.

As Churches Together we hope to reach out as Christians, in any way we can to our local community. United services are arranged; one in January, Pentecost Sunday and Advent Sunday when each church takes a turn at being host. Members from each church come together to rehearse and form a United Choir for the occasion.

Discussions (Faith to Faith) are arranged - each church leader gives a brief talk and then invites questions from the floor. These discussions have proved to be very popular, most informative and not least, amusing.

One of the highlights of the year is the Good Friday Procession of Witness which begins at Holy Trinity Church and ends in the Market Place. The Procession is normally led by a local brass band and a member of the Salvation Army carrying a huge wooden cross
